The goals of RAILSERV are:

To achieve these goals the work will be carried out in clusters, in cooperation with other RTD projects and experts. The clusters will identify the areas were additional activities could increase the utilisation of results from research and prepare proposals for new added value giving activities. The following four clusters will be established within RAILSERV: (1)Introduction of market forces and improvement of business environment of freight rail operators; (2)Added value to rail freight business from development of the trans-European freight rail network and rail freight feeways; (3)Support interoperability of networks and services reducing border delays introducing modern IT-solutions and harmonisation. (4)Support to the development of a single market for railway equipment including leasing. The work of the clusters will be approved by a Consultative Committee (CC), which will be established as an important element of the network. It’s role is to ensure that the most pressing issues are addressed, to approve recommendations, disseminate information and serve as a critical link between main stakeholders and member states. The participants of the CC represent among others railway freight operators, intermodal operators, large industries, service, decision and policy makers, IT providers and relevant university professors or researchers.
